Frame repairs

GripSport is Australia’s first & only Specialist Bicycle Engineering company… and we offer the first & only National Frame Repair Service specializing in precision repair, modification and restoration work to all metal frames including…

*  Aluminium
*  Steel
*  CrMo
*  Stainless Steel
*  Titanium

Every GripSport frame repair is individually engineered to ensure maximum strength and stress relief for the damaged area and while some repairs can be done in a way that leaves the frame looking exactly as it did when it came out of the factory, others simply can’t and are going to require the addition of some material in the form of a gusset or sleeve. Why? For the simple fact that just “welding up” a broken frame will always make that area weaker than it was to start with. So for your own sake (and safety) don’t ever let someone just “weld up” your cracked or broken frame… it can’t work and we’ll never do it… simple as that.

What does this mean for you and your frame?

Well it means we’re far more concerned with structural integrity than appearance. We’re certainly not going to turn your frame into a Frankenstein monster, but the bottom-line is we wont do any repair unless we do it properly - that way we can be confident that we wont see it again and you can ride confident knowing that your frame has been “repaired”... not just “welded-up”. There really is a difference.

What people have said about our frame repairs

Hey John, My repaired frame arrived today and I must admit there was a bit of trepidation in opening the box. I am not quite sure how to say this, so the easiest way might be just to say what a damn bang up job you’ve done. If I did not know better, Id think it was a factory job. Really! It’s that good. Not much else to say but a HUGE thanks. VERY impressed mate… VERY.
Gerard Thomas - owner 26inches.com (MTB website)

Thanks for the repair/paintjob. Don’t think it could’ve turned out any better. And I’m going to have a hard time trying to crack the headtube this time! Cheers,
Adam Walker.

Hi John, First, just letting you know my frame made it back here safely yesterday - you did a great job of protecting it during transit. Thanks for fitting the disk tabs to the front fork and rear dropout/chainstay. I may have found someone to attach a tab to the chrome moly forks but no-one I asked, including the distributor in the States, was prepared to weld a tab onto the aluminium dropout and rear chainstay so, one up for Gripsport! Both tabs are so neatly welded that you’d think that they were part of the original frame, not an after market add on. Also, the “Mother of Pearl” finish looks just great. Ill send you a picture of the finished bike once I’ve built it up.

Hi There Jon, You may recall an On One Inbred frame you gusseted for me back in April. I’ve been meaning to let you know how it has gone—Here are a couple of photos. It’s been back in action for a few months now, and your repairs have worked a treat—now they are painted, you’d never know they were add-ons. The cable guides you added for the hub shifter cables have added the finishing touch. The front gussets you added have transformed this frame. It has approximately twice the torsional rigidity at the front end than it did when new. The difference in front end stiffness was noticeable the instant after getting on the repaired bike, but the frame has kept that flexy steel zing where it matters thankfully. On One should consider something similar for their larger frame sizes as standard. Thanks heaps for this repair. All the best,
Ross Cayley.- Melbourne

Jon, Frame arrived today and looks awesome. I’ll be sure to use your services again (and pass on your details at the races & out on the trails!!)Cheers.
Paul James.

G’day Jon, just a quick note to let you know I have received my swingarm & fitted it. It fits perfectly & the repair looks great thanks for fixing it for me. regards
Simon (Cooma)

Dear GripSport, my swingarm arrived today and the welds look factory…. Sooo-perb job and once again, thanks for the great quick and friendly service…. and at such a wonderfully reasonable price.. Do gripsport have stickers?

Just for an update to those that like such things….Yesterday my buggered old frame landed from a direct flight from GripSport. I gotta say GripSport did such a brilliant job, that unless you are totally in the know with the San Andreas frame, youd never know it has been repaired. It just goes to show that just because something is old, or a little bit broken, does not mean it can not be fixed to be as good as new.

Hi Jon, I received my mongoose frame today, the brake mount and gusset looks like an awesome job. Thanks for your efforts, Regards
Andrew Perry

Hi, my name is Joseph and I’m a very satisfied and happy customer. I came to you early this year to have my aluminum frame converted from vertical to horizontal drop out and you did an amazing job. I’ve since used it for courier work and got hit from behind on Kings Way by a car traveling over 60Km/h which completely buckled and cracked a triple walled Mavic touring rim (wroth $120¬) and seized up the bearing in the rear hub (TN hub with four fully sealed cartrages)…but the frame held together and is still usable ( I was fine because I got flipped right over the car). I then got hit from behind again on Flinders Street by a car traveling at 40Km/h and the frame is still fine! I got it X-rayed and there’s no cracks. So, well done! Great work!

Hi Jon, I’d like to thank you for doing a beautiful job on my bike. The workmanship is very very nice. I have yet to build up the bike as I am in Brunei for work for 2 weeks but when I get back I am gonna show it off to some of the local bike shops here in Singapore because so far everyone has been amazed by the workmanship. Once again, I’m sorry for all the phone calls. I hope you understand. Thanks so much!
Malcolm Ragan

Hi Jon, I finally got my bike put together. The fit of the brake caliper was incredible and the bike shop was very impressed with your workmanship. The caliper fit and spun freely without any shims at all and the vertical position of the caliper was spot on. As promised, here are some pictures of the build up for you.Thanks again for the beautiful job. It was money well spent sending my frame to you. Cheers! Best Regards,
Malcolm Ragan

Jon, Thank you for you and the teams effort in fixing my frame, it has arrived and looks very good. I will have the bike rebuilt this week and will advise you if there is a failure in the future, and if so where. Hopefully there won’t be, but as we know, mountain biking does take its toll on aluminium. Thanks again for all of your effort and help. Regards
DAVID HUNTER (sent in Aug 2009 and we haven’t heard from him yet!)

Hi John, Tom Dillewaard here, with the Tomac Primer from up in Queensland. Just writing to say thanks for your great quality work and customer service. Your repairs on my frame are done so well most people can’t realize there have been repairs done at all, and the bike is riding like new again. I will gladly recommend you to anyone I meet who requires bike frame repairs or painting. Once again thank you very much
Tom Dillewward

Hi Jon, the frame arrived at work either Monday or Tuesday, but I was off sick for both those days and have only just seen it today. Wow! It looks great and the mother of pearl is a great colour. Thanks a lot for repairing my frame. I’ll be sure to recommend you to anyone that could use your service. Regards,
Chris DeMello

Hi Jon, Just thought I’d drop you a line to let you know how great the frame
looks! When you said the metal was a bit pitted, I will admit I was a
bit worried, but, it looks great. I love the colour and the repairs
work very well and add something a bit special to the frame. Thanks again,
Robert Hovey

Hello Jon, Thank you for the brilliant job you did on my Splendid Conveyance. All of the modifications were carried out exactly to spec and your attention to detail really showed in the clean finish of all the work. The paintjob looks great too. I’ve attached some photos to show how it’s all come together. I’ll definitely be using Gripsport again. Thanks again.

John, The attached link should take you to an album of pictures of the build of my bike. You will recall that you put the split in the frame to allow me to run a Gates belt drive. Enjoy, I have more photo’s if there is a particular aspect you want to showcase. The Bike is awesome and your mod works a treat. Cheers,

Hi Jon, swing arm arrived the other day and it’s all good. My friends now call
it ‘frankenbike’ but I’m just happy to report that at 10 times less
than a replacement - the ‘beast is back’! Thanks for your super speedy repair job. Cheers
