Photo albums - a look at what we do

Luckilly, catastrophic failures like this are quite rare.

You can’t be serious!

In this first album you’ll see a small sample of the problems we’re solving every day. After this you’ll find individual albums for every specific area of a bike frame.

When it comes to repairing a

Frame Repairs - Main-frame sections

The “top” and “down” tubes of traditional hardtails, or the bit that everything bolts onto with full suspension frames. If they’re not cracking around welds they’re getting banged and dented. We do both structural and cosmetic repairs.

Frame Repairs - Brake mounts

As well as fitting new disc mounts to just about any frame you can throw at us… hardtail, dual-suspension, Aluminium, CrMo, steel and Ti.., we also repair, replace, modify or reposition existing mounts for all other brake types.

The owner of this bike was seriously big and one jump too many saw the shock mount tear clean apart.

Frame Repairs - Shock mounts

When you think about the stresses being pumped into a shock mount, it’s pretty amazing that any of them hold up at all. If yours doesn’t, we can repair it and make it stronger than new.

This carbon fibre Cervello (with a non-replaceable hanger) was turned into a very expensive paper weight when the hanger broke. We converted the dropout to accept the custom

Frame Repairs - Derailleur hangers & dropouts.

Derailleur hangers and the dropouts they attach to break… that’s all there is to it. In fact hangers are often meant to be “sacrificial” and to break before your frame does. Unfortunately though, they tend to take a piece of frame with them when they go.

This Santa Cruz seat stay broke twice and was welded up twice before it finally came to us. That was 5-6 years ago and we haven't heard back from the owner since so we assume it held up just fine.

Frame Repairs - Chain stays, seat stays & swingarms - Dual suspension

Not just the obvious bits like stays and swingarms… this album also showcases the other types of problems we can fix in this area of a frame including things like bearing seats, pivot points and clamps etc.

Some problems down near the bottom bracket shell are a little more dramatic than others. Luckily even this can be repaired.

Frame Repairs - Bottom bracket area

The most common repair we do to this area of a frame is replacing the threads in the bottom bracket shell… but there’s a lot more that goes on down there. And a lot more that goes wrong.

Seat stay (hardtail) - bent & out of alignment.

Frame Repairs - Chain & Seat stays - Hardtails

We’ve probably seen and repaired just about every type of damage it’s possible to do to this area of a frame… both MTB and road. Here’s just a few examples of what can happen and how we go about fixing it.

This crack started right on the weld (most of them do), but how much riding do you think was left in this frame before the entire front end let go? We treat every crack like this as if the very next ride is going to end in disaster. Which means we fix it... properly.

Frame Repairs - Head tubes

Problems at the head tube include things like cracks (which can run vertically from the top or bottom, or form where it joins the top or down tubes), “ovalising” and crash damage. We’ve engineered a range of solutions for all these head tube issues.

Run your seat post too far out and you risk having this happen.

Frame Repairs - Seat tubes

Some seat tube problems can be repaired invisibly… others are going to need a gusset, sleeve or “wrap” of some kind, but the important thing to remember is they can be fixed.

Painting your frame

At the risk of sounding like we’re boasting… ask around. We think you’ll find we really are very good at painting frames. And our prices start at just $149 for a frame bead blast, preparation and powdercoat in a colour of your choice.

Here's Andrew replacing part of a tube that had rusted out from the inside.

BMX - Repairs & Restoration

Doing up an old BMX is hugely popular, but unfortunately, they’ve often been ridden to within an inch of their lives… and then a little bit further. We can make them all look and ride like new again.

Richard Luke's amazing looking restoration. He wrote -

Thank you for the brilliant job you did on my Splendid Conveyance. All of the modifications were carried out exactly to spec and your attention to detail really showed in the clean finish of all the work. The paintjob looks great too. I've attached some photos to show how it's all come together. I'll definitely be using GripSport again. Thanks again.
