Happy New Year |

Well we’re back… and as usual it’s a hectic start to the new year for us. In fact this is our 12th new year now and every one of them has been busier than the last. This one is particularly satisfying though, because we’re in the middle of putting in some new CNC tube bending equipment, tweaking designs for a few new products and looking at adding to our workshop staff in the near future.

All in all we’re expecting a huge year and we’re looking forward to being of service to our customers in any way we can. So don’t hesitate to get in touch and remember - there’s no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer… and we try very hard not to give any of them.

Last chance! |

Don’t forget folks… this Saturday (Dec 17) is our last Saturday trading day for the year.

We’re closing for the holidays at 3.30 Wednesday Dec 21
And then re-opening at 8am Monday Jan 9.

... but Saturdays have always been our big day for customers to drop in so we’re giving you this reminder… if you’re wanting something before Christmas and you’re a weekend sort of person and can’t get in during the week, then this Saturday is your last chance.

But wherever you are in Australia you can always call to order what you want because we deliver to every corner of the country.

Have a great Christmas and New Year everyone… and be safe!
From all of us at GripSport.

We don’t need a holiday… really! |

Holiday closing times

*  Shutting the doors 3.30 Wednesday Dec 21
*  Re-opening 8am Monday Jan 9.

No bloody idea why we’re being forced to do this. It’s not like we need a rest or anything!

But we are going to be closing for the holidays, all because some people… medical type people and “wife” type people… keep telling us we need a break and that a year of 12 hour days is going to kill us.

Pffft, what a load of rubbish… there’s nothing wrong with us! Happy Easter everybody.

Welcome to our new website! |

Welcome to our new website!

And what beauty it is…

Many thanks to our very clued-in web designer, Ben Bailey. If you like the look of Ben’s work and need some website work done, you can get in touch with him via a link at the bottom of our “About Us” page. And best of all, not only is he very good at what he does, but he’s a cyclist too so it was a match made in heaven when we found him… although he did look a little worried when he spotted us for the first time. Go figure?

Anyway, our site really is all new, so please have a look around. We’ve got new products and services listed now that we were never able to showcase on the old site and everything’s bigger and brighter and hopefully much easier and cleaner to use. As usual, we’re always rapt when we hear from customers, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with comments, feedback or even just a g’day. We’ve even made contacting us easier - check out the “Contact Us” page.

Splitting a frame |

Splitting a frame

Not quite as harsh as it sounds… one of the more tricky things we’ve been doing lately is modifying frames to accept a belt-drive system such as the one shown on the left.

Belt drives are a great idea, but of course as they don’t break like a conventional chain the frame itself has to be able to open up so the belt can be fitted.

The aluminium Voodoo frame shown here is typical of what we do and allows the R/H chain-stay to open up at the dropout just by removing one bolt… but then regains the frames stiffness and structural integrity when tightened.

Look what we found! |

Look what we found!

Spotted this poor little bugger skulking across the front of our factory a couple of weeks back. 6-weeks old, 600 grams and skinny like a starving sparrow, she was terrified and heading for a very busy road.

We managed to beat her to it, stop the traffic and grab her and now she’s wormed her way into our hearts and has a home where she spends her days lounging on the boss’s bed… with the electric blanket on of course.

Not a bad life, really. And for all you Kiwis out there… we named her Tui.

What exactly are you lot doing out there? |

We seem to be having a huge influx of damaged derailleur hangers and dropouts lately… on everything from K-Mart bikes right through to exotic road and off-road thoroughbreds.

And its definitely not just the so-called cheap bikes that come without replaceable derailleur hangers and when those non-replaceable hangers break, it doesn’t matter how expensive your bike is… it’s suddenly about as mobile as an anchor!

So it’s worth checking your hanger and make sure it isn’t cracked, because if it is, the next gear change you make could be the one that pulls the derailleur into the wheel and breaks off part of your frame.
